1, B- blocker Contraindications mnemonics

    Main contraindications and cautions:

= Asthma ( Bronchial Asthma),
       ACS
= Block i.e. Partial or Complete Heart block ( Especially propanolol )
       Bradycardia
= COPD
       Congestive heart failure ( CHF ), LVF
= Diabetes Mellitus
= Electrolyte Disturbances i.e Hyperkalemia(K+ excess)
F = Fluid retention ( Massive fluid retention, who need vasodilators or inotropic drugs )
G
H = Hyperlipidemia ( Specially nonselective B-blocker, e.g. propanolol= Raise TG, LDL and reduce HDL )

Cardioselective B-blocker (β1)


β2 selective blocker

Adrenergic β2 Stimulation ----> Stimulates β cell adenylyl cyclase----> Increases Insulin secretion---> Hypoglycemia.[Hence CI in DM patients under medication due to risk of hypoglycemia]
